History and background
Makeup has been out for a very long time. Maybe not how popular it is now but basic makeup would be used such as makeup for their face, lips and eyes. Here are some different types of ways people would use makeup back then and a little history.
* Ancient Egypt used a protective balm and skin cream made of beeswax, olive oil and rose water.
* The ancient Greeks also used cosmetics. Also Ancient Rome, it was known some women used lead-based formulas to whiten the skin and kohl was used to line the eyes.
* To have clean breathe ancient Africans chewed herbs, frankincense, or licorice stick, yet still used today.
* Setting lotion that are used now also contain beeswax and resin, for baldness, greying hair.
* After Arab tribes converted to Islam, cosmetics were only restricted if they were to disguise the real look in order to mislead.
* Chinese people began to stain their finger nails with gum Arabic, gelatin, beeswax and egg white from around 3000 BCE.
* The royals wore gold and silver then later wore black or red. Lower classes were forbidden to wear bright colors on their nails.
* In Japan geisha were lipstick made of crushed safflower petals to paint the eyebrows and edges of the eyes as well as the lips.
* Queen Elizabeth l of England was known user of white lead (contained arsenic, that killed lots of women). She created a look called "the Mask of Youth".
* Pale faces were a trend during the European Middle Ages.
* Back then pale skin was a trend especially to those who were wealthy because that meant they didn't work in the sun and afford to stay inside all day.
        Requirements to obtain the career
Required education would be a associates degree or training program in cosmetology. Licensed is required for cosmetology in all states. Most beauty professionals complete formal training through programs that require at least a high school diploma or its equivalent for admission. You can receive professional training through a cosmetology associate degree program that are offered at a community college. At a cosmetology school students learn about makeup application, hair cutting and styling, skin care treatments and nail care. Students also learn state regulations, sanitation, bacteriology and business skills. Some main things would be to get training lot of training and to gain experience. Lots of new trends come out so there's always something you would need to learn.
           Job position description

            Job reflection and outlook
Some disadvantages of being a makeup artist are:
* The competition between makeup artist is so high.
* There is no work schedule, you maybe asked to work at night and very long hours.
* There may be problems with regular work.
Some advantages:
* It is easy to take on this career only takes one to two years to study to be able to work or even take short courses.
* You get to meet new people visit new places and work with celebrities.
* You get to see the results of your work right away.
I would say being a makeup artist may benefit the community or society by the way the makeup is done. For example when doing make up for movies it's use to make somebody look like an older person or younger or for specialized affects makeup can make a person look completely different. A lot of women like getting their makeup done for special events like parties. It benefits them them because it makes them feel pretty and good about themselves.
I think this career is important for our society because like I said before its used for many different ways. A movie star without makeup I'm sure wouldn't be the same. Women also like to get their makeup done to feel good about themselves. To make them feel different. Even guys get their makeup done. I think this career would be a good one for me because it's something I love doing maybe not traveling so much because I would have a child and that's a big responsibility. Traveling around the area I would do just not to places far away, other than that I say it is a good career for me.
